For me as an athlete
Hello, I'm Momchil.
In addition to being a middle and long distance triathlon coach, I am also a passionate athlete myself. Although I have been involved in sports since I was a child, I officially started triathlons in 2012 – with a sprint distance triathlon. Over the years, I have completed numerous triathlons of various distances, marathons, a dozen obstacle races (OCRs) and several self-organized challenges.
I strongly believe that we humans are capable of much more than we think.
And the physical aspect is my field of choice to explore.

October 2023 | Sofia Marathon
For the end of the year I decided to prepare for a good run at the Sofia Marathon. The preparation went well and I finally had an idea about nutrition. If only I had followed my original plan… 😁
Still time 2:52. Read more about the race HERE.
July 2023 | 100km Trail
First appearance of the legendary Vitosha100! Starting at midnight on Sunday, this is the biggest 100 km race in Bulgaria. This is my second time participating in a 100 km race – this time with a time of 2:11 p.m.
Maybe a duathlon in 2024 (100km bike + 100km run)?
May 2023 | Almiraman Greece
Only my second middle distance triathlon – Almiraman in Greece. Last time my time was 5:49, and this time with a much better performance – 4:15!

October 2021 | 1800 km by bike
It has been on my list of challenges for a long time – to cycle over 1,800 km from Stuttgart(🇩🇪) to Ruse(🇧🇬). 11 days solo – riding through rain, sun and darkness and lots of memories!
August 2021 | Ironman Frankfurt
My most emotional race – Ironman Frankfurt! With a time of 9:42:06 and 5th place in my age group, I qualified for the world championship in Kona, Hawaii. It was a dream I had worked hard for over the past 10+ years.

November 2020 | First 100 Miles
I had been thinking about running for a long time. 100 miles (160 km) at a time. Most races continue to be either postponed or cancelled, so the next best thing is to do a self-organized one. After 28 hours of mostly walking I can proudly say I've done 100 miles!
September 2020 | Self-organized triathlon
Most Ironman events in 2020 were canceled due to the pandemic. So I organized a full-distance triathlon myself. With the support of my family, I completed the full distance in 11:17 in Essen, Germany.
April 2020 | 2x 250 km for a cause
My brother and I decided to contribute to the frontline medics fighting the pandemic. Because everyone had to stay home – we did 12 hours of exercise on the treadmill. Full video here.
We managed to raise a total of 1,440 euros for charity.
March 2020 | 4 x 4 x 48
First lockdown and my brother and I decided it was a good time for a mental test. Based on the idea of David Goggins we did a challenge where we ran 4 miles (6.5 km) every 4 hours for 48 hours.
October 2019 | Third Marathon
The third time for an official marathon in Essen, Germany and a personal record – 03:32:07.
Still have no idea about nutrition before and during a marathon. 😁
August 2021 | Ironman Copenhagen
My second official full distance Ironman race in Copenhagen, Denmark. My preparation for this event was about 60 hours of unstructured training. Race day nutrition – 4 energy gels and a bottle of water. Total time – 10:39:23.
October 2018 | 100km in 24h Frankfurt
My first time running more than 42km in one go. Starting at 4pm, the night was very long, and the day after that – even longer. With a dozen pimples the size of a coin each, it was a painful but very memorable experience.
September 2018 | Ironman 70.3 Relay
This is my first time participating in a triathlon relay. With my dad in the water, my brother running, and me on the bike, it was an unforgettable family vacation! And a uniquely beautiful course in Slovenia.
September 2018 | 8th Tough Mudder
For the 8th time I am covering the entire distance of Tough Mudder. Every time with different team members is a new and great experience.
June 2018 | Iron Viking
How about running a marathon distance in a race, but with obstacles (Obstacle Course Racing)?
Iron Viking It is considered one of the hardest marathons in the world. I did it for the second time with my brother.
September 2017 | Kom-Emine Route
Another check on the list – crossing the legendary route from the westernmost point of the Stara Planina Mountains (Kom Peak) to the Black Sea (Cape Emine). Known as Kom-Emine, it stretches for more than 650 km and took my father, brother and me 18 days to walk it. 🌄
August 2017 | First Ironman
The first edition Ironman in Hamburg It was also my first full-distance triathlon. It was a dream of mine for 10 years! Having my family by my side to support me was the best thing I could have asked for after finishing in 12:03.
October 2016 | First marathon
First official participation in the legendary distance of 42.2 km. Without any idea about nutrition, running form, training or equipment. I was completely focused only on finishing the distance. The total time was 4:27:50. 🏃♂️
August 2016 | First Ironman 70.3
My first middle distance! Having my family around to support me was huge. Still, I learned some lessons – like drinking a few beers the night before an event is probably not the best tactic… 🙄 Finish time: 5:49:35
July 2016 | First Olympic distance
After 4 sprint events I was ready to increase the distance. My first Olympic distance race was in Tübingen, Germany. I only remember the stomach upset I had the next day after swimming in the Neckar River…
September 2012 | First triathlon
My first triathlon started out more as a joke. Without any idea what I was getting myself into, I said "Sure, sign me up!" after a friend told me about it! On the wrong size bike, an unbearable pace in the pool and running in basketball shorts - just some of the stories that I now remember with a smile 😊.
